Tourism Queensland was in need of a little more market attention back in January of 2009. Their current marketing team was not generating the results Tourism Queensland wanted so that team of experts were given their pink slips and a new, unique marketing campaign ensued. Take a look at what they did….
So this spot advertised a job position titled “Best Job In The World” and was posted on the internet for the world to view. As you can see, it included a 6 month stay in a nice expensive hotel in a rather nice location. It also required that the person explore the Great Barrier Reef and all it has to offer and then write about it on a blog. Oh, and the pay was $150,000 – not bad.
Needless to say, many people applied for this position. Ultimately, one guy from England was chosen.
What did Tourism Queensland get out of this?? Well,
- They saved a lot of money. Past marketing campaigns cost them millions of dollars. This one was just $150,000.
- They acquired a large quantity of applicants including their contact information for future marketing campaigns. Most probably continued to monitor the company via the internet as well.
- They acquired maximum exposure to the general public worldwide because the video went viral.
